Our first few days are behind us and we have dug right into our science curriculum (I got a copy of a 2nd grade edition of Scott Foresman's science workbooks, activity books, and textbook for cheap on Amazon) where we are beginning the year with learning about plants. Now, this is actually going to be rather easy for The Monk, as we have been gardening for the last 4 years and he is rather familiar with how plants grow and what they need so that they can healthy. Since he is a tactile/visual learner, I have decided that notebooking and coloring pictures are really the way to go with him. Here is a page from our first lesson, where we diagrammed what plants need in order to grow from seed. We still need to work on handwriting, but I know that will come with time and practice.

How it all started...I was a public school teacher for 6 years in a very urban middle school for both 7th and 8th grade. As the red-tape got thicker and teaching became more of a business rather than a place to prepare young minds to enter into the world, I decided that if I was going to work that hard to give an education to someone, it should be my own son. So, my adventures in homeschooling has begun. Follow us on Instagram!
