Well, the coop has been ordered and is on its way. We are out to get the chicks this weekend and start them in a brood box in the house until they grow big enough to be set outside in the coop. I have so many ideas running through my mind about how I want to paint and decorate the coop (I know, who thinks about these things? Apparently I do.). Since this is a such a new experience for us, I want our coop to be cool and interesting. I also don't want it to be just another eyesore in our backyard (which, truth be told, is what all of the backyard really is at the moment - one big eyesore), so I want to add some color and fun to what is actually just a big square of dirt. Hopefully, if the coop (and the garden fence) are colorful and cool, then it will help us to be more inspired to fix up the backyard more quickly.

I always seem to be saying this in regards to this website...where does the time go? Away, away, away. So, as this, my last professional school year, is coming to an end and homeschooling will begin, I am hoping that time will slip away from me a little less quickly and I will be able to maintain this a bit more faithfully.
Here it is, the first official day of Fall and I'm sitting here wondering where the time went. It's hard to understand how I started out so well with keeping this up, but then, it all seemed to fall (pun intended) apart on me. I lose time, I get distracted, and the next thing I know, the seasons have changed. Goodness. Needless to say, school has started once again and Cub Scouts are in full swing. Dean is the den leader for Monkey's Tiger Cub den and our lives are full of after school activities, homework and house repairs. Everything happens so fast and I really do need to continue to make an effort to keep everyone up on what is going on. Here's to getting ready for the colder weather, the crisp fall evening fire pits on the weekends and many other things that we need to do as a family so that we don't let the craziness of life get in our way. OMG! It is absolutely amazing how much a family can get done when there is a ton of sumlight (I so love summer time!) I had a wild burr to organize the bathroom cabinet (raided the local DollarTree for a bunch of baskets and such). So on Friday, totally redid our upstairs bathroom and got it all organized. Then, on Saturday, we worked in the yard, cleaned up the house and planted our new apple tree (given for free by a local nursery). It was a generous gift that gives in return. All we have to do is take apples that come from the tree to the local food pantry when the tree starts to bear fruit. A very cool deal. Then we hit the Culture Fest in our hometown and walked around for a good portion of the afternoon. Afterwards, we had a Tr3asures BBQ with our fire pit, funny faces, a s'mores. While the boys cleaned up, I read Warm Bodies ( a wonderful and fantastic book so far!).
Sunday gave us a bunch at a beautiful manor and a trip to the butterfly pavillion. Some more family time and then some small chores around the house rounded up the weekend. Summer offers so much more time to actually get out and do things. The sun is warm upon the day, the light brightens the sky for so much ln It was a beautiful day today! A perfect spring morning with all of us outside (couldn't get Kiya to come out, but the rest of us were enjoying the weather). With all the snow and rain that we've been getting, it was nice to get out into the fresh air. I started off with weeding the yard, but after Hubs had mowed, the sweet smell of cut grass was calling to me and I could no longer resist the temptation of the sun, sky, and serenity. So, I got a blanket, a refreshing drink, and my current brain candy reading and plopped myself out on the lawn. Soon, the Monk was next to me, curled up along my side, playing a game on Dada's phone and Anala was on the other side, basking in the rays of the sun. It was awesome. A slight breeze kept it from getting too hot and I was in heaven. There is no better way to read than on grass in the sunshine (except maybe in a hammock on a beach somewhere in the Bahamas). Buddha says to not dwell on the past or dream of the future, but to concentrate the mind on the present moment. And it was an amazing moment. *smile* Our family time this weekend was spent watching Star Wars (the original versions, not the cruddy re-makes done in the '90s). It was the Monk's first time and it was awesome. We had food to match (of course) that included Jedi Juice (above), Kenobi Krisps, Solo Salsa, Cantina Wings, and Wookie Pies. The Monk LOVED it (as any 5-year over active boy should) and pressed and pressed until we watched Empire Strikes Back. He's also has already received a promise for Return of the Jedi next weekend (sans goodies, however). |
Family FunHere are the posts that I will keep of all of our family fun moments. We try to have them a lot and really enjoy our time together (esp. since we know that little ones become big so quickly). Archives
