Since The Monk is very hands on, you'll notice that a LOT of our work revolves around drawing and coloring. This is actually working really well for us, because it engages him. That is soooo helpful (otherwise, he gets the wiggles and starts staring off into space).
Some of the things that we've been covering are life cycles, food chains, comparing and contrasting, retelling, and writing short stories. This has been pretty awesome actually (he really LOVED writing his own short story and we even made little "books" to show it off!).
Coming up next (for reading and writing) is something that I got from our local ComiCon (since we are big nerds and all). This is going to be fun because it's going to involve really looking at how comic books are made as well as how to produce our own (which, I feel, is a great way to really emphasize storytelling). Since The Monk and I both like drawing so much (and since we've already illustrated our own short stories), I think that this is going to be a really cool thing for us to do together as well as really emphasize how stories (and comic books/graphic novels) are created. Here is where you'd find all the info for this cool program that we are trying out for the next few weeks. It's a pilot program, but I'm really excited to be trying it out. I think that The Monk is really going to enjoy creating his own mini-comic book. I'll keep posting about how we are getting through this!
